Galaxy Class redux

Well, I’ve been promising it for a long, looooong time.
And according to the blue prints (Which I have here beside me, all 15 or so A1 sheets), that is how tall the computer cores are! (The large purple objects).

To give you an idea of how long this one of going to take: It’s taken me the better part of 2 hours just to get the deck count correct, with Deck 10 being precisely where it should be.
The stardrive has slightly shorter decks than the saucer section. Who knew?!

I decided to do a classic ship that no-one seems ever to have down a schematic for. Presenting the Daedalus Class:

Yes, 14 decks. I decided to match the decks with the window configuration. With so many different opinions on size, I went for a size the made sense to me.

This makes the Daedalus about 140 to 150M long.

Entering the Nebula, Part 2

It’s done. Woo hoo! Damn these Galaxy and Nebula class MSDs are tough…. so much internal volume to fill. No wonder Okuda never bothered fleshing them out.

And here’s version 2. Which features torpedo launchers in the “Sensor” pod. Seems to be a popular choice.

Well, that’s cool. Tis the only reason I post them in such high res here!

Yes, I could sell them, make some money, but that would take me down to the level of those I onced asked for such images only to be told to cough up or go away. Star Trek should not be about making a profit. At least, not amongst its fans. All I ask from anyone who wants to use my work is to either leave it as is and simply resize for purpose, or if they want to edit it, ask me. I do not require anyone to link to my blog, but think it’d be nice to do so.

So, if you have any of my work on your website, or just like my blog, I’ve created to banners for ya’ll to use. If you want to that is.

I thought it was high time I do an MSD I have been promising for a long long time.

Actually, the Nebula class was the first MSD I ever did. And the picture below shows it. Gawd awful!

The Insignia MSD is really kicking my ass, so I decided to finish up these puppies (well, I say finished, there are some glitches here and there that I’ll see to when I can be arsed!). This is my favorite ship class from the entire Trek universe, one that still oozes the sense of power, majesty and sophistication.

A brief history of the USS Saturn:

Originally the USS Northampton, the ship was built for use as a heavy cruiser during the Dominion war. At the time, only key parts of the ship were completed leaving the superstructure approximately 80% empty.

When the war ended, she was deemed to be intact enough to be repaired and fully fitted out. As the refit was to be almost a complete rebuild, the latest technologies were incorporated into the plans endowing the completed vessel with enhanced capabilities compared with the original Galaxy design specifications.

And yes, all the lifeboat hatches are sequentially numbered!

Someone who’s name escapes me (sorry if you’re reading this! Drop me a line!) did some 3D renders of a magnificently accurate Galaxy class mesh for me.

All I had to do was plonk the name and registry in the appropriate places and add a background, then soften up the render to give it a more realistic look.

Not bad for my first ever attempt, if I may say so myself.

While I am focusing on the Saturn:
